Marlins Top Wild Card Contending Braves Earn Third Straight Series Win

Marlins top wild card-contending Braves, earn third straight series win

Three-game sweep keeps slim playoff hopes alive

Miami is now just 1.5 games out of the final NL Wild Card spot

Jazz Chisholm Jr. drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, and the Miami Marlins held on to beat the Atlanta Braves 4-2 on Sunday afternoon, claiming their third straight series win. The victory brings Miami within 1.5 games of the final NL Wild Card spot.

Jesus Aguilar gave the Marlins an early lead when he sent a 3-2 curveball from Braves starter Charlie Morton over the left-field wall to lead off the second inning. The Braves tied the game in the fourth when Austin Riley and Matt Olson hit back-to-back singles to start the inning, and Riley scored on a fielder's choice.

Chisholm gave the Marlins the lead for good in the bottom of the inning when he hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Jon Berti from third base. Miami added two more runs in the fifth on a RBI single from Nick Fortes and a bases-loaded walk by Bryan De La Cruz.

The Braves threatened in the seventh inning, loading the bases with one out against reliever Dylan Floro. But Floro got out of the jam by inducing pinch-hitter Marcell Ozuna to ground into a double play.

Tanner Scott pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Anthony Bender worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to earn his 11th save of the season.

With the win, the Marlins improved to 56-65 on the season. They will open a three-game series against the Washington Nationals on Monday night at loanDepot park.
