Early Life and Career
Joshua David Shapiro (born June 20, 1973) is an American politician and lawyer who has served as the 48th governor of Pennsylvania since 2023.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Shapiro graduated from the University of Rochester and Georgetown University Law Center.
He served as a commissioner of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania from 2003 to 2007 and as chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2007 to 2011.
Pennsylvania Attorney General
In 2011, Shapiro was elected as the Pennsylvania Attorney General.
During his tenure, he cracked down on the opioid crisis, fought to protect consumers, and investigated the Catholic Church's handling of child abuse.
Governor of Pennsylvania
In 2022, Shapiro was elected governor of Pennsylvania, defeating Republican Doug Mastriano.
He was sworn into office on January 17, 2023.
As governor, Shapiro has focused on education, healthcare, and economic development.
