Chelsea Women Boss Emma Hayes To Coach US Team
Current Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has been named head coach of the US Women's National Team.
Hayes, who has led Chelsea to five trophies, including the Women's Super League title in 2021 and 2022, will take over from Vlatko Andonovski, who stepped down from the role in August 2023.
Hayes, 46, was named The Best FIFA Women's Coach of the Year for 2021 and is a finalist for the award in 2023.
In an interview with US Soccer, Hayes said she was "honored and humbled" to be named head coach of the USWNT.
"This is a dream job for me," Hayes said. "I have always admired the USWNT and am excited to work with some of the best players in the world."
Hayes' first match in charge of the USWNT will be a friendly against Canada on September 19 in Kansas City, Kansas.
The USWNT's next major tournament will be the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.
Hayes will be tasked with leading the USWNT to its third World Cup title. The USWNT won the World Cup in 1991, 1999, and 2015.
