Early Life and Family

Born on August 15, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, Maxine Waters was the fifth of 13 children. Her parents, Remus Carr Moore and Velma Lee Carr Moore, divorced when she was two years old, leaving her to be raised by her single mother.

Marriage and Children

Waters was married to Edward Waters, with whom she had two children, Karen and Edward Jr. After their divorce, she has remained unmarried.
