British driver ends 2.5-year drought with dominant victory

Verstappen finishes second as Hamilton takes ninth win at Silverstone

SILVERSTONE, England - Seven times world champion Lewis Hamilton took his first Formula One win of the season at the British Grand Prix on Sunday, ending a 56-race winless streak.

The Mercedes driver led from start to finish, holding off a late challenge from Red Bull's Max Verstappen to take his ninth victory at Silverstone.

"It's such a special moment to win here at Silverstone," said Hamilton. "I've been counting the days since my last win and it's been a long time coming."

Hamilton's victory is his first since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, and it marks a significant milestone in his career. He is now the first driver to win on any track nine times, and he also extended his F1 record to 104 wins.

Verstappen finished second, 3.098 seconds behind Hamilton, with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr. completing the podium.
